Hello readers :)
Today I went back and read over some of the first posts of this blog and had a great time reading over what my old mini day-to-day adventures. It reminds me that things seem much more exciting once they are written down!
Our latest mini adventure was yesterday as we drove into the Ghost recreation area, north of the TransCanada Hwy. This area consists of a couple 4WD 'roads' crossing and running along the gravel meandering bed of the Ghost Creek and is a popular place to get back into the mountains for ice climbing in the winter. We crisscrossed the old bed and parked at the bottom of the Black Rock Mountain hiking trail. With Silas in the carrier we did a quick hour and half hike halfway up the trail. On our way out we also grabbed rocks to fill two bins in the back of the Cruiser to add to our slowly developing garden and backyard.
Although we have driven in the mountains with Silas earlier on sightseeing trips with visiting relatives, yesterday was our first attempt at hiking using the carrier. Jeff was originally wearing a sweater as it was a chilly day, but we quickly learned that with a baby strapped to his front things quickly got waaaayyyy too hot, leading to a pretty uncomfortable boy. We thought it was his diaper, so we set up the change pad on a flat-ish log, but then realized that he was just happy to have his pants off! Once Jeff took off his sweater, the way back down was much calmer. I was on super alert for bears, though I have never heard of one being in that particular area. Hearing Silas' baby chatting ring through the woods reminded me of National Geographic nature documentaries where the babies get picked off by the predators... There really are some base-level maternal instincts - the biggest nature moment we had was a bird flying by and I was ready to fight to the death! It makes me think that I should stick to the popular trails, but then again, that's where the bears go too. Once we got the temperature regulated, Silas had a good time looking all around. I'm blessed with a boy who likes to be outside as much as I do. Speaking of, I think it's time for our walk :)
